WhatsApp link generator

One tap opens a chat with you, with the first message already written.

A WhatsApp link opens a chat with your number, with your first message already typed. Put the number and the message in below and you get a wa.me address and a QR code for it. Put either on a card, a poster or a website.

Free, in this page

Make your chat link

Pick the country, type the mobile number, and add the message you want waiting in the box.

Your WhatsApp number

Leave the message empty and the link simply opens a chat with an empty box, which is sometimes the friendlier thing to do.

Your link

Type a mobile number and the link appears here.

Nothing is messaged when you make a link, and nothing you type is sent to us.

Step by step

How to make a WhatsApp link

Step 01

Pick the country and type the number

Choose the dialling code, then the mobile number without its leading zero. Paste a full international number and the country is picked up for you.

Step 02

Write the first message

This is the sentence sitting in the box when the chat opens. Write it as the person messaging you, not as yourself.

Step 03

Take the link or the code

Copy the address for a website or a bio, or download the QR code for a printed card, a window or a poster.

Worth knowing

What the link can and cannot do

The address is the one WhatsApp publishes: wa.me followed by your number in full international form, with the message added as text. It opens the app on a phone and the web version on a computer.

It has to be a mobile number that WhatsApp itself is running on. A landline is refused here rather than turned into a link that opens a chat with nobody.

Nobody is messaged when you make a link. The message is only ever sitting in the other person's box, and they send it or they do not.

Clear answers

Questions about WhatsApp links

Do I need WhatsApp Business?

No. The link works with an ordinary account. What it needs is the number the app is actually running on.

Why was my number refused?

Either it is a landline, which WhatsApp does not run on, or the digits do not match any real numbering plan for that country. Check the country and the digits.

Can I change the message later?

Only by making a new link. The message is written into the address, so a printed code carries the message that was in it when you printed it.

Is my number stored?

No. The link and the code are made in your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to us and nothing is kept.

Should I put this on a printed card?

You can, but a card with your own page behind it is safer: the page carries the chat button and everything else, and you can change the number behind it without reprinting.
