QR code generator

Type what the code should open, choose its size and colours, and take the picture away.

A QR code generator turns a link or a piece of text into a square code a phone camera can read. Type yours, pick the size and the colours, and download it as a PNG or an SVG. Nothing is sent to us.

Make your code

The code is drawn in this page as you type. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is kept.

Colours

Keep the code darker than its background. A light code on a dark card looks smart and no camera reads it.

Your code

Type the link or the text the code should carry.

SVG for a printer, PNG for a screen. Nothing you type here is sent anywhere: the picture is drawn by this page.

Step by step

How to make a QR code

Step 01

Type the link or the text

A web address, a phone number, a line of text: whatever the code should hand over when it is scanned.

Step 02

Choose how it looks

Pick the size in pixels and the two colours. Keep the dark part dark and the light part light, or no camera will read it.

Step 03

Download it

PNG for a document or a slide, SVG for a printer. An SVG stays sharp at any size, which is what a print shop wants.

Worth knowing

Printing a code that lasts

A QR code is a picture of an address, not a redirect. Print one that points at a page you may move and the printed cards are wasted the day the page moves.

That is the reason a digital card exists. Your card lives at one address and you edit what is behind it, so a code printed once keeps working when your number, your job or your company changes.

For a printed card, export the code as an SVG and give the printer a dark code on a light background with a clear margin around it. A code smaller than about two centimetres across is hard for an older phone to read.

Questions about QR codes

Is this really free?

Yes. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit, and the picture carries no watermark and no logo.

Does the code ever expire?

No. The picture is fixed the moment you download it, and it keeps pointing at whatever you typed. What can change is the page at the other end.

Do you keep what I type?

No. The code is drawn by this page in your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to us, so there is nothing for us to keep.

Which file should I give a printer?

The SVG. It is drawn from lines rather than pixels, so it is sharp at any size on any press. Use the PNG for a screen.

Can I put a logo in the middle?

Not here. A logo covers part of the code and whether it still reads depends on the reader. If you want a code with your face on it, put it on your card page and print the card's own code.
