Tapni alternatives you can start free

Their entry point is a card you buy; ours is a link you publish.

Tapni's own pricing page starts with a card you buy and offers no free plan. Here the entry point costs nothing: publish a card on your own link, print a code on paper, and add a tag later if you ever want one.

In plain words

Paying before you have tried it

There is a reasonable argument for selling the card first: it is the thing people picture, and holding one makes the idea obvious. It also means the first thing you do is pay, before you know whether you will use it twice.

The order here is the other way round. Publish, hand the link about for a fortnight, and if it has earned its place decide what to pay for. Nothing is being kept from you while you make up your mind.

We are not restating their amounts. The page we read printed them without a readable decimal point, and a price we cannot read for certain is a price we do not print.

The short answer

Tapni compared with this site

Their page is proud of the object, and fairly: premium cards for individuals, with a card included when a team buys seats. If the card itself is the reason you are shopping, that is the page to read.

This site treats paper as a partner rather than a rival. The free maker gives you a print-ready design with room for a code, so the cheap paper card in your wallet points at the same details a chip would have opened.

Fair is fair

Where Tapni is the better choice

Two honest reasons to buy theirs instead.

  • Somebody who wants a good-looking physical card first and the software second, which is the order their own page puts them in.
  • A team buying cards and seats together, since their Business tier bundles a card with each user.

Questions before you buy anything

Can I get a card without paying at all?

Yes, two ways: a card on your own link, free to keep, and a print-ready design you can take to any shop or print at home.

Where does the QR code come from?

It is drawn for you when you publish, and it opens your card. Put it on whatever you are printing and the paper keeps pointing at your current details.

Do I lose anything by not having a chip?

You lose the tap. Everything the tap would have opened is reached by the code and by the link, on far more phones.

Is the maker really free?

Yes, with no account and no watermark on the file you download. It is a separate thing from the card on your own link, and it costs nothing either.

Your turn

Try it before you spend anything

Publish a card, print a code, and see whether people use it. That is a cheaper test than a card in the post.
