Printable business cards

A sheet of ten, cut lines included, from a printer you already own.

Printable business cards are cards you print yourself. Design one here, then download a sheet of ten with cut lines, two across and five down, on A4 or on the US Letter grid Avery 8371 and 5371 sheets use. Print it on ordinary card stock.

In plain words

What the sheet is

It is a PDF the size of the paper in your printer, with ten copies of your card laid out on it at their true size and a thin line around each one to cut along. There is no bleed on this sheet, because a home printer cannot print to the edge of the paper and a bleed would only be thrown away.

A4 fits ten cards of every size the maker offers. US Letter is a shorter sheet, so ten fit at the American size; pick a bigger card on Letter and the sheet holds eight rather than ten, which the maker draws rather than squeezing them.

The other download is the one for a print shop: a PDF at 300 DPI with a 3 mm bleed and crop marks. Use the sheet at home and that file anywhere else.

How to print business cards at home

Step 01

Design the card

Use the free maker: your details, a design, its colours and the size you want the finished card to be.

Step 02

Download the sheet

Choose the print-at-home sheet and the paper you have, A4 or US Letter. It downloads as a PDF.

Step 03

Print at full size

In the print dialogue choose Actual size or 100 per cent, never Fit to page, or every card comes out slightly small.

Step 04

Cut along the lines

A guillotine or a steel rule and a sharp knife give a cleaner edge than scissors. Card stock of about 250 to 350 gsm feels right.

Clear answers

Questions about printing at home

How many business cards fit on one page?

Ten on A4 at every size the maker offers, and ten on US Letter at the American size. A bigger card on the shorter Letter sheet gives eight, and the sheet is drawn that way rather than shrinking the cards.

What paper should I use?

Card stock of roughly 250 to 350 gsm. Anything lighter feels like a flyer, and anything much heavier may not feed through a home printer.

Why do my printed cards come out a little small?

Almost always because the print dialogue is set to Fit to page, which shrinks everything by a few per cent. Set it to Actual size or 100 per cent and the cut lines land where they should.

Is there a bleed on the home sheet?

No, deliberately. A home printer leaves an unprinted margin, so a bleed would be cut off anyway. The print-shop PDF has a 3 mm bleed and crop marks instead.

Can I print both sides?

Yes, if your printer turns the paper over accurately. Print the front sheet, feed it back and print the back. On a printer that is not exact, a single-sided card looks better than a crooked double-sided one.
