Does the person I give my card to need to install an app?

No. It is an ordinary web page, so it opens in whatever browser their phone already has. If they want to keep it, the card shows them how to add it to their home screen - two presses on an iPhone, one button on Android - and after that it opens like an app. Still no app store, and nothing for them to sign up to.
