Nearly always contrast or size. Use dark on white, download the SVG rather than the PNG when it is going on paper, keep it at least two centimetres across on a printed card, and leave a clear margin round it. A code laid over a photograph, or drawn in a pale brand colour, is a code no camera reads however pretty it looks.
