Notify and wallet pass messages: what's the difference?

Pro

Notify sends a notification to phones that allowed notifications from your card, and the Wallet screen puts a message on the passes people added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

They reach people in two different places, and each is counted on its own.

  • My Card: a notification sent from Notify. It appears on the lock screen of each phone that allowed notifications from your card.
  • My Pass: a message sent from the Instant Push Broadcast panel on the Wallet screen. It appears on your pass in the person's Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and their phone shows it on the lock screen. This needs the Pro + Wallet plan.

A message sent from Notify goes to phones only, and one sent from Wallet goes to passes only, so one send never reaches the same person twice.

A pass message counts only the passes that are really on a phone. A pass file you downloaded to look at is not counted. Apple and Google also allow only a few messages a day on one pass. See How often can I put a message on somebody's pass?.

Both cost the same: one credit for each person reached, from the same credits. What you have sent on Notify lists both, with a My Card line and a My Pass line.

Some messages that send themselves reach people on your pass when that is the only way to reach them, such as the thank-you to someone who added your pass. See Messages that send themselves: an overview.
