Notifications

Send a message to the phones that allowed notifications from your card, and let a few of them go by themselves.

What is a notification here?#

A short message that arrives on the lock screen of somebody who allowed notifications from your card. It is the same kind of message an app sends, without anybody having to install an app: your card on their phone is all it takes.

Who can I reach?#

Only people who pressed the button on your card to allow notifications from it (on an iPhone, once the card is on the home screen). Nobody else. There is no list to buy, no address to type in, and no way to message a stranger from here.

How does somebody allow them?#

There is a Card Notifications row on your card page with an Enable button, which turns into Subscribed once they agree. The phone itself asks the question, and it only ever asks after a real tap - a page that asks the moment it opens is a page people say no to.

How do I send one?#

Notify in the sidebar. Write a title (up to 60 characters) and the message body (up to 160), choose who it goes to, and send. The same composer appears on the Wallet screen, and a message sent from there also lands on the wallet cards people are holding.

Who can I choose to send to?#

Everyone who allowed notifications, everyone who came from one particular tracked link, everyone with your card on their home screen, or everyone carrying a tag you use. Picking a link is the useful one: message only the people you met at one event.

What is a message credit?#

One credit is one person reached. Sending one message to forty people spends forty credits. Your balance and what a send will cost are shown before you press send, so nothing is spent by surprise.

How many credits do I get?#

Twenty on each monthly anniversary of your account. They are for that month: whatever is left of the previous month's twenty goes when the new ones arrive, so they never pile up quietly into a number you did not plan for. A team gets twenty for each seat it pays for, in one pool that everybody on the team sends from.

What is a credit pack?#

Two hundred credits bought once. Packs never expire, and they are spent only after your monthly credits are used up, so buying a pack never wastes the free ones. Buy one on Billing, or from the Buy credits line beside any credit count.

Is there a limit on how often one person hears from me?#

Yes, and it is deliberate. Nobody gets more than one message from you in a day. Two, while you are holding pack credits - the pack is what buys the second - and the moment the pack runs out the cap drops back to one on its own.

What happens if I have no credits left?#

The send is refused and the screen says it was refused for want of credits and points you at a pack. It is never silently trimmed to the number of people you can afford, because a message that half went out is worse than one that did not.

What can run by itself?#

Seven automations, each with its own form under Notify, then Automations. A thank you when somebody saves your card. A message you schedule for a date. A short sequence on day 0, day 2 and day 7 that stops the moment that person writes to you. A per-lead reminder. A nudge after 30 and 60 quiet days. A follow-up after an event, keyed to the link they came from. And a greeting on a holiday you pick.

What is the my details changed message?#

When your published phone number, job title or company changes, we notice and write a message about it for you. It is a DRAFT: nothing goes out until you have read it and sent it. Your own edit should never become a message to other people without you saying so.

Why does an automation have more than one wording?#

Every automation step carries at least three wordings and they rotate, so two people who met you the same week do not get an identical sentence, and the same person never gets the same wording twice in a row.

Can I see what I have sent?#

Yes. "What you have sent" under the composer lists every message with what went, when, who it went to, where it went and how many were reached. It shows 25 messages a page, newest first, with Newer and Older links under the table. An automated send that went to one person says so - it never describes itself as having gone to everybody.

Can I see how much I have sent lately?#

There is a small table at the top of "What you have sent" with four columns - Today, 7 days, 15 days, 30 days - and a line for My Card, a line for My Pass, the total, and what it all cost in credits. The days are whole days on your own clock, set by the time zone on your account, so Today means the day you are living in. Only messages that actually reached a phone are counted: one still going out, or one that failed, is not in these figures.

What is the difference between My Card and My Pass?#

My Card is the message that arrives on the lock screen of a phone that allowed notifications from your card. My Pass is the message that appears on the card somebody added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. They are two different places, so they are counted separately everywhere - but they cost the same and come out of the same credits.

How does this relate to wallet cards?#

A wallet card carries a message field on its front, and a message you send reaches it too - that is a My Pass message. It is metered from the same pool - a person reached is a credit, however it got there. See Wallet passes.

How do I send a message to the people holding my pass?#

Use the composer on the Wallet screen. It has one group - everyone holding your My Pass - and it counts only the passes that are really on a phone: one somebody added to Apple Wallet, or one Google has told us reached their wallet. A pass file you downloaded to look at is not counted, because there is no phone behind it to reach. A message sent from that screen goes to the pass and nowhere else, so nobody gets the same words twice.

How many messages can reach one pass in a day?#

Up to 3 messages a day reach one pass. That ceiling is Apple's and Google's, not ours, and it is separate from the limit on how many messages one person gets from you in a day. Passes that have already had their three are left out of the count, so you are not charged for a message that would not arrive.

Do My Pass messages use different credits?#

No. There is one pool. Your 20 monthly credits cover both, and one message to one person is one credit wherever it goes - on their phone or on their pass. Credit packs work the same way.

Why did one person not get it?#

Phones drop notification permissions when a browser's data is cleared, when the card is removed from the home screen, or when somebody turns them off. A dead device is cleared from your list the first time it refuses, so your counts stay honest instead of counting phones that have gone.
