What is a tracked link?#
A short address of ours that sends somebody to your card and quietly records that it was used. It looks like visitingcards.store/l/ followed by eight characters. Because it is yours and separate from your plain card address, you can hand out a different one in each place and see afterwards which place actually brought people.
How do I make one?#
Links and QR, then Generate Tracked QR Code. Give it a name you will recognise later (Printed cards, box of 500), choose what it is for, choose where it should land, and save. The code and its QR picture appear straight away in the list above.
What are the purposes for?#
Seven labels that say where a link lives: The card itself, Printed card, Email signature, Social profile, An event, Wallet card and Something else. They are for your own reading, and a couple of them are used by the product too - the wallet pass carries the Wallet card link in its scan code, and the signature generator and the virtual background make their own.
Where can a link point?#
My card, Save my contact (the contact file downloads at once), My card with WhatsApp open, My website, or a web address you choose. Everything but the last one follows your card, so changing your card never leaves a printed code pointing at the wrong thing.
How do I get the QR code as a picture?#
Every link in the list has its code drawn beside it, with a download button. You can ask for SVG for print (it stays sharp at any size) or PNG for a screen, and set the size and the two colours. Use the SVG whenever it is going on paper.
Can I colour the QR code?#
Yes, a foreground and a background colour. Keep the contrast strong: a pale code on a pale background is a code no camera reads. If you are unsure, dark on white is never wrong, and it is what we draw by default.
Why do the codes look the way they do?#
Eight letters and digits, drawn from an alphabet with the look-alike characters left out - no zero against a capital O, no one against a lowercase L. Somebody reads a code off a printed card and types it by hand often enough that it is worth avoiding.
Where do I see how often a code was scanned?#
Two places. The list on Links and QR shows each link's own count, and Analytics has a table of every link with its type, its destination, its clicks and the share of your views that clicked it.
What counts as a scan?#
One request to the short link. We record the day and the code; we do not record who scanned it. A preview fetch by a chat app can show up as one hit, so treat the first count on a freshly shared link with a pinch of salt.
Can I change where a printed code goes after it is printed?#
Yes. The code on the paper never changes; where the link goes does. On Links & QR, press Change where it goes under the link, choose the new place and save. The card's own link always opens your card.
What happens if I delete a link?#
Anything printed with that code opens your card instead, and the link's scans are lost, so the screen asks you to confirm first. If a code is out in the world on paper, point it somewhere else with Change where it goes instead of deleting it.
How many links can I have?#
On the free plan, one: your card's own QR code. Pro gives you as many as you like, each with its own QR code and its own numbers. Make a link for each place you hand your card out - a printed batch, an event, a signature, a profile - because that is what makes the numbers worth reading.
My card page has its own QR code. Is that the same thing?#
It is the card's own link, drawn on the card so somebody can point their phone at your screen. Switch it on under Sections. It is counted the same way as any other link.
Is there a quicker way to share without making a link?#
Yes. Home and the Cards screen both carry Scan and Share with your card's own QR code ready to hold up, Copy Card Link, and buttons to send it by email or WhatsApp or to download the code. Make a tracked link when you want to tell two places apart, not for every share.
