Creating an event, step by step
Pro + EventsPress Create an event, fill in six short steps (the basics, the times, the place, the tickets, your questions and the settings), then save it as a draft or publish it.
In your dashboard: Your Card > Events > the Create an event button
Last updated
Open Events and press Create an event. To change an event later, press Edit under it.
The editor has six steps, named along its top: Basics, Schedule, Location, Tickets, Questions and Settings. Move with Back and Next, or press a step's name. Save as draft keeps everything from any step, and only you can see a draft. Close without saving leaves it.
Basics
- Title, and its Type: In person, Online, or In person and online.
- Description: what happens, who it is for, what to bring.
- A Cover picture, or with none, a cover drawn in your card's own colours, in a style you choose.
- Address word: the end of the event's own address, made from the title. Letters, numbers and dashes.
Schedule
Starts, Ends, and the Time zone the times are in. People see the zone on the event's page and on their pass.
Location
In person: the Place name, City and Address, which the event's page links to a map. Online: the Online link and any Access instructions, such as a passcode.
The online link is private. Only people with a valid ticket see it, on their pass and in their ticket email, and it is never on the event's page.
Tickets
- The event's payment link: a payment page where the buyer types the amount. Promo codes work only through it. See How people pay you: your own payment links.
- Currency, and Places in all if the whole event has a limit. Leave it empty for none.
- Each ticket type has a Name and a Description, and is Free or Paid. A paid one has its Price and, if you like, This ticket type's own payment link, a fixed-price link used instead of the event's.
- Its Places, the Least per person and Most per person in one registration, and when its Sale starts and Sale ends.
- On sale (shown on the event's page): switch it off to take the ticket type off sale.
- Add a ticket type adds another, up to 12. A ticket type that already has tickets issued can be taken off sale, not deleted.
Questions
Everyone is asked for their name and email, and for a phone number if they want to give one. Add a question adds one of your own, up to eight, each with the kind of answer you want. The answers show on the Attendees tab.
Settings
- Registration open: switch it off to stop new registrations. A past event closes by itself when it ends.
- Approval required: each registration waits for your yes, and the pass is issued when you approve it.
- Waiting list: when a ticket type sells out, people can leave their name for a place. See The waiting list for a sold-out ticket type.
- Attendees may cancel their own ticket, until the Hours before the start when their own cancel closes. Cancelling gives the place back.
- Refund and cancellation policy: in your own words, shown on the event's page and on each pass.
- List on VisitingCards.store events: your event also appears on our public events page while it is upcoming. It stays off unless you switch it on.
- Tickets can be added to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet: every valid ticket gets the two wallet buttons on its pass and in its email, and the ticket in the wallet changes when you move or cancel the event. It comes with the Pro + Wallet plan; without it the switch is shown greyed with the way to Billing. It stays off unless you switch it on.
Publishing
Press Publish to open the event's page, or Save changes once it is live. If something is still missing, such as the place or a ticket type on sale, the event is kept as a draft and the screen lists what to add first.
Events need the Events add-on, which is $0.99 a month on top of Pro. Without it the editor is shown greyed and nothing is saved.
