The pass designer: a tour

Pro + Wallet

The Wallet screen draws your pass on the left and the boxes that fill it on the right; click any part of the pass to jump to its box, then Save and Publish at the top.

In your dashboard: Your Card > Wallet > the Your wallet pass panel

Last updated

Open Wallet in your dashboard. Everything about your pass is on this one screen.

The top of the screen

  • Download the pass for iPhone gives you your pass as a file. It works once the pass is published. See Downloading your pass for iPhone.
  • Test Lock Screen Alert shows, on a drawn phone, how a location alert of yours looks. Nothing is sent.
  • Preview Pass shows, on a drawn phone, how an update to your pass looks. Nothing is sent.
  • Four tiles: Active Passes (passes on people's phones, split between Apple Wallet and Google Wallet), My Card Subscribers (phones that allowed notifications from your card), Location Alerts (the places you pinned) and Location Alert Views, which is not measured, because the phone raises those alerts by itself and tells nobody.

The pass panel

The Your wallet pass panel is where you design the pass. There is one drawing of it, and it changes as you type.

  1. Pick Apple or Google above the drawing. Each wallet has its own boxes, because the two passes are not built the same way.

  2. Type into the boxes on the right. They run in the order the pass reads, and each one lights up the part of the pass it fills.

  3. Click any part of the drawing to jump to the box that fills it.

  4. Press Front or Back under the drawing to see the other side. On Google the second side is More rows: what people see when they open the pass.

  5. Press Save. It saves the tab you are on, so save before you switch to the other tab.

  6. When both tabs are ready, press Publish this pass. See Publishing your pass, and why it won't publish.

The words between the two buttons tell you where you are: Nothing saved yet, Saved · not published, Saved · unpublished changes or Published.

A new account starts with a sample pass, so you can see what goes where. Change the names on it to your own; a sample is never handed out.

Under the drawing are the two Add to Apple Wallet and Add to Google Wallet buttons and your pass link. They stay greyed until the pass is published, and a line above them says what is missing. The fold What differs between Apple and Google lists what only one wallet can do. See What's different between Apple and Google passes.

Further down

The pass is its own thing. Nothing on it is copied from your card: it says exactly what you type here. See Does the pass change when I change my card?.
